We want to see all of our 2018 Seniors walk across the stage for graduation on June 15th.   Please see your School Counselor if you any questions about your college or post high school plans.  NRP is now handling cap & gown orders as well as announcements and other graduation items. Their website is Here

Keep up those grades and go to Warrior OT for extra help or to make up work.

Seniors who have applied to CSUs & UCs:  check your portal account at least once a week.  Do not miss any deadlines or your provisional admission may be revoked!  You will need to submit an Official Transcript Request Form next May to send you final transcript to your college.  Mrs. Dunham will be sending out final transcripts a week after graduation.

Community college students will start the registration process next March for Fall 2017.  Graduating seniors can register for classes starting in April after placement testing at College of the Redwoods.  DNHS Counseling Office will be offering workshops to assist seniors with the online application and taking the College of the Redwoods Placement Testing.

College Bound Students:

*  Send your SAT and/or ACT scores to UCs and CSUs by December.  Many campuses have deadlines to receive official scores by January.  Directions on how to send scores is available here.

College Admissions Night UC Davis Powerpoint:   Jacquelyn Ross, UCD representative, presented this ppt at 2014 College Admissions Night.

*  How much will college cost?  Colleges are starting to post "Net Price & Cost Calculators" online.  CSU Mentorhas one for the CSU colleges.  Individual UCs will have cost calculators, such as the one at UC Davis.  Use the search box on college websites to find their cost calculators.  California community colleges each have a net price calculator, which you can access by putting "net price calculator" in the college's website search box.  CNN Money has a cost estimator as well.  The US Dept of Education also posts a net price calculator for vocational training programs on its College Affordability and Transparency Center website.

*  Seniors who apply to CSUs will get an email asking them to register for the EPT and ELM placement tests.  Some seniors may be exempt from taking one or both of these tests -- this can be verified during the registration process.  Seniors should register as soon as possible at the ETS website:  CSU EPT/ELM Registration.  Do not miss this important deadline!

* Early Assessment Program (EAP) Your scores were mailed home on the score sheet for the California Standards Tests (CSTs) for seniors.  The EAP scores are printed on seniors' transcripts. These scores may exempt students from having to take English and math placement tests at public colleges in California.  A link to an explanation of the scores is here.

*  CSU and UC applications are due November 30th.  Late applications are rarely accepted.

*  Community college applications: This will start next spring.  We will have Community College Workshops for seniors to help them with the enrollment form in March and workshops in April 2018 for the English and Math placement tests if needed.    The California Community College Chancellor's Office website (www.cccco.edu) has information on all 112 California community colleges.  Students can apply online to any one of the California community colleges at www.CCCApply.org.

*  Applying for financial aid for college starts in December.  We offered workshops to assist you with this process. We offer a Scholarship Database for seniors on our Financial Aid & Scholarships page.

*  The California Student Aid Commission (www.csac.ca.gov) administers the Cal Grant program as well as other financial aid programs.  They have released their estimate of expenses for college students for 2018-19  These are only estimates for living expenses, books, and personal expenses and they may be adjusted by each college.  These estimates do not include college tuition or dorm expenses which vary by college.

All Seniors:

*  Double-check your transcript when you get it this fall (will be mailed home) for any errors.  Notify the Counseling Office if you have any concerns or questions.

*Cuando Llegas a los 18

*  Be aware of your legal responsibilities when you turn 18:  The California Bar Association produces a pamphlet "When You Turn 18" about your legal responsibilities as an adult.  All seniors are strongly encouraged to read this important information.

* Clear any fines or overdue books: Diplomas will not be released to students who owe fines or overdue books.

* Talk to your School Counselor if you are still unsure about your post-high school plans.

*  If you are planning on taking a College of the Redwoods class in the Fall of 2018, the registration process started at the end of March.  State budget cuts have resulted in fewer college classes available at all colleges, so register as early as you can.

*  Register to Vote: It is important to vote to make your voice heard and your opinions known.  We encourage seniors to register to vote. The online application is available at the California Secretary of State website: www.sos.ca.gov.
